why is cinco de mayo even considered a holiday?

ok, so whats the point in celebrating what just about every country has done, beat the french? also, just as an afterthought, they went through all that trouble to save their country, why are they coming over here in such vast numbers, instead of attempting to better mexico?

Update:

listen, im not nocking the people who celibrate it, im asking why the holiday is celebrated, when the outcome of the war is pretty much wasted anyway (I am however, nocking the french, if you couldnt tell)

Most people value their cultural heritage. And only people who are ignorant, racist, or both belittle that.

The only Holidays in existence for U.S. is New years, Memorial day, Independence Day, Labor day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The rest are just over-rated commercialism celebrations.

p.s. I read another party's question (who was asking from Mexico) regarding the Cinco De Mayo celebrated in the U.S. Because it is not celebrated in Mexico. These people in U.S. seemed to have him confused on the issue. Or he definitely thinks they are the ones who are confused instead.

Why do we celebrate St Patricks Day or why is Christmas a federal holiday maybe I'm Jewish. Why do we celebrate anything?Maybe we should do away with all holidays.Does our government stick a gun in our face to shake us down for the money in our pockets? No but the Military who are the police force in Mexico HAVE and still DO.That's why.

Where is the day to honor the Brits who founded this country or the Germans who are the largest group of immigrants in the country. What about Russia where my grandparents came from. Or any other country. Maybe we should have a March of Nations on Washington. All participants carry the US flag in one hand and the flag of their country of origin in the left. Let's go you unhyphenated AMERICANS.

technically they're independence day is September 16. Look it up if you don't believe me. In my opinion they come here because their gov't is corupt. they cant make a better mexico if their gov't doesnt care about them, all they care about is putting money in their pockets. i know because i have family in mexico. We celebrate st. patricks day, martin luther king, why not cinco de mayo?
