The best fantasy baseball players depends on what type of league or position they play but I'll give an overall perception...

Batters (AL & NL): I hate to say this, but the best player right now is A-Rod. He's having a superb comeback season after hitting only 35 HR and 120 RBI for the Yanks (which was consider to be a down year for Yankee fans but not Fantasy players). His 27 HR and 73 RBI arguably lead the league for a thin position at 3B and his overall number has been impressive (.315 BA, .413 OBP, .697 SLG) and has taken his name into MVP consideration again. His pace would take him to 50 HR and 130 RBI, the best season for a Yankee since Roger Maris hit 61 HR. Being the third pick behind Pujols and Reyes in most fantasy draft, this has to be consider a "discount".

In the NL, it would be a tie between Jose Reyes and Prince Fielder. Reyes has been making numerous nightmares for opposing defense, as his 37 SB (on pace for another 60+ SB season) currently leads the league. His stats are respectable enough for a leadoff player (.318 BA, .401 OBP) but considering that he hit 19 HR last season, his pace is only going for 9 or 10 HR this season. Still, he is a rotisserie dream for any fantasy team. Fielder on the other hand is an up-and-coming slugger that's going to bash some more balls in the near future. Currently leading the NL in HR (25) and RBI (54), he has lead this Brewer team out of the cellar and into first place, a consideration for MVP. His overall stats has been nothing short of amazing (.290 BA, .374 OBP, .637 SLG) and a 50 HR season is not out of the question for a 1B who follows a similar path as Ryan Howard (Howard hit 22 HR in his rookie season, Fielder hit 19 HR in his rookie season, Howard smash 58 HR the next season, Fielder ?). Although Reyes was a top-10 pick heading into 2007, Fielder wasn't even consider a top-10 1B back then, so this is something remarkable.

Pitcher (AL & NL) - The days of Hudson, Mulder, Zito reigning Oakland was over when the last piece of the big three (Zito) move across the bay bridge to San Francisco (Hudson was traded to Atlanta while Mulder was traded to St. Louis the following day). One key part of the Mulder deal happen to be an unknown reliever name Dan Haren, who was a key part of the St. Louis bullpen. Two years later, Haren has emerge as an unlikely ace for Oakland, leading the league in ERA (1.64) and WHIP among starters (0.88) while managing to only issue 68 hits in 104 innings. The strikeout are nothing to brag about (84) but his control (24 BB) have something to say about his ability to lead a Fantasy pitiching staff. A 8-2 record is among the best in the league, percentage wise for a starter and considering that he was not a top-10 pitcher entering this season, he came at a discount on the later rounds and could emerge as a Cy-Young candidate, as well as a Fantasy ace.

Jake Peavy erase his rough 2006, in which he was lit over with an ERA over 4.00 and his offseason troubles with the law has the making of a mental breakdown. Still, he was one of the best pitcher around, considering that he lead the league in ERA in one season while leading the league in strikeout the next. That past still made him a top-10 pitcher entering this season and so far so good. He leads the NL in ERA (1.82) and second in strikeout (103) while compositing an 8-1 record. His amazing WHIP at 1.00 is among the best for starters and finally showing form that going to make him a Cy-Young winner and a fantasy ace entering 2008.

Well theres no doubt this year that it is Alex Rodriguez for batters, some other hitters that are great to have are Prince Fielder, Magglio Ordonez, Albert Pujols, Gary Sheffield, and Jose Reyes. Pitchers can be a big problem due to the fact that they are very unpredictable, at the beginning of the year I would have said Johan Santana is a first rounder now he is still a good pitcher this year he's not what was expected. So I would try to base your pitching staff around people that you know are average or above average, not going for one star and the rest below average pitchers, my staff is Roy Halladay, Carlos Zambrano, Matt Morris, Ervin Santana, Gil Meche, and Randy Wolf, a lot of good strike out guys and guys that go 7 innings plus every outing. You can keep in mind relief pitchers, but this year only a few have been outstanding, Arizonas Jose Valverde, Clevelands Joe Borowski, and iffy sometimes but Chicagos Ryan Dempster. Hope this helped!!!

Hitter - Its gotta be Ichiro. He started a little slow, but has really picked it up. He is great in four major categories, Runs, Hits, Average and Stolen Bases. He is the best all-around outfielder there is fantasy wise.

Pitcher - ITs a toss up between Santana and Peavy, they are the best two and both will help you win any league.

    Batter- Arod

    Pitcher- Jake Peavy

A.rod- having the best season of his career probably will finish with mid 50's in HR's with 160 Rbi's with a high average if u pick some one else ur a fool

For Jake peavy its obvious u know what ur gonna get with him every start a lot of a strikeouts good era.. whip and most importantly wins

if ur looking to draft these u would have 1 solid team

^Borowski gets a nod? His era is like 7.

A-Rod. There is no discussion here, and hitters are always more valuable than pitchers. Johan can't get you saves, but he'll do it all in the other categories. A-Rod hits for average, homers, rbi, runs and even grabs some bases. That's five categories to any pitcher's four.

Poujols is the best; sorry Prince, sorry A-rod. But you know what you'll get from Albert, every time. He's going to put up that .330 Avg, 45 Hr even with a slow start. He's gold in my book. Reyes is second for me, than A-rod.

Santana for pitching. Peavy a close second, but Santana is consistan and dominates after all-star break.

There is no one better than A-Rod right now. There is a reason he gets picked first in pretty much every draft. Best pitcher, probably Santana based on past performance but Peavy has been lights out so far this season.

I would say Jose Reyes for a hitter. He can get you a lot of stolen bases, and a lot of hits. Or Prince Fielder because he has such good power.

For pitching, it would be Dan Haren, or like Josh Becket. They can get you k's and wins all the time.

Arod followed closely by Jose Reyes
