I like books with fighting girls, crisis, chaos, drama... Stuff like that
I liked the books by Sophie Kinsella, but am looking for something a bit more advanced...

Jennifer Crusie is my favorite. Try "Faking It" or "Fast Women" - both are so funny!
I also recommend Janet Evanovich, Susan Elisabeth Phillips and Rachel Gibson.

Tamora Pierce. It's considered Fantasy but all her books are about young women, 10-20 years old, who overcome various societal problems, fall in love, fight their own battles (political, bullying, The King's Court, actual war, and others), deal with growing up, friendship problems, and basically life.
She has numerous series. The first three series each have four books dealing with a different girl. They are very quick reads. The last series dealing with Alianne is only two books.
Alanna poses as her twin brother to become a knight. Some of the guys find out she's a woman. The first book doesn't have much romance in it, but the latters do.
Daine speaks to animals. She ran away and is traveling with a few people. Danger follows her, this is during a war (if I remember correctly). There is romance in this one too. I think this is my favorite series.
Kel is the 1st girl to become a knight as a girl. She's dealing with becoming very womanly in a place full of teenage boys while also trying to keep up with the guys. There's a few guys she has relationships with. These books are a little longer.
Alianne (Aly) is Alanna's daughter. She dyes her hair blue to rebel from her family, gets kidnapped and is sold as a slave in another country that is in civil war. She is bought buy a family in the mist of the whole war (they're a reason there is a war) and Aly must hide her identity as the daughter of an important person in her home country so that she is not used for ransom and possibly killed.
Source(s): Read all of these books and love them. - Anonymous1 decade ago
"The Debutante Divorcee" is a cute chick lit book. It has a little drama in it. However, I wouldn't consider it an advanced book.
"Memoirs of a Geisha" is a really good book. It has a little girl drama in it, as well as crisis situations. It's not fluffy chick lit, but it is more advanced and it does appeal to those like myself who enjoy chick lit books. (Note: if you've seen the move, don't worry, it's A LOT better!)
