Is my engine seized?
when I start with a key , it goes "clunk". When I turn the crank with a socket, it turns about a 1/4 turn then stops. I can hear compression in the moto`r. Is my engine seized? It's a 1997 Mitsubishi Diamante with a 3.6 V6.
I just bought the car, NOT running. I was thinking maybe a bad flywheel?
I have a good motor to put in it but I was hoping to avoid that if I could.
UPDATE!
Thanks for your answers. Turns out, there is a steel gasket between the trans and the engine called a "rear plate", and there is a "drive plate" which connects tne crankshaft to the torque converter. A torque converter bolt got loose and bent the "rear plate" and the "drive plate" got wedged into it.
THE MOTOR NOT SEIZED!!!! =)

did you break a timing belt. did the car just stop. either way the motor will probably have to come apart. (valve damage) good luck

I agree with the guy who suggested that your timing belt may have failed. Depending on the mileage on the engine, that's a good place to start.
Your problem sounds as if it might be pretty serious, you may be looking at a different motor. If the timing belt broke while the engine was at anything above an idle you likely have done major damage that more than likely won't be worth fixing.
Remember, the timing belt gets changed every 60,000 miles or 100,000 kilometers WITHOUT FAIL!
If anybody tells you different they are full of it!

it could be hydro locked as well. remove the spark plugs and turn engine over. if all the same, it is most likely valve damage.
good luck.

check the starter, it might be engaged into the flywheel and not releasing. when your turning the engine, the starter might be jamming the flywheel.
