should i buy a gift for the person throwing me a baby shower?

A card would certainly be in order. I would say don't worry about a gift or a card until after the fact as it will most likely stress you out and you won't enjoy yourself as much.

After the shower is over write them each a nice thank you note telling them how much you enjoyed it and make it as personal as possible. If you felt they really went above and beyond you should probably get them a little something they could enjoy: a bottle of wine, flowers. Nothing too big and fancy but that shows your appreciation that they thought of you and your baby and put together an event.

I'm sure you would have anyway but make sure you write thank yous to everyone who gives you a present at the shower. It would also be appropriate to thank them for coming.

I threw my friends baby showers. One of them brought me a gift card and the other one just gave me a thank you card. Its the thought that counts. When my friends gave me a bridal shower, I did give them a gift (purse). I just thought it was the right thing to do. Gift cards always work out best. Have fun at the shower.

You should give them hostess gifts as a way of saying thank you. Present the gifts prior to the start of the event.

I think a small gift, just to say thanks is the way to go. Hostess gifts. Something like a small bottle of wine for each fo them, or a box of chocolates. Something small just to express gratitude. A public expression of your gratitude along with the presentation of the gifts would also show them how much the event means to you. Congratulations!!

yes they put together a party for you. get them something like a spa gift certificate or make them a little goodie bag to present to them before the shower with a little hand written note of appreciation.
