How do I get the sound to work on my computer?

Well my brother just gave me this computer and there has never been any problems with sound until just recently when I got it. I thought at first the speakers just broke since they were old so I went out and bought new speakers and they work fine connected to my iPod. I figured out it was my computer but i'm not exactly computer savy so if you know what the problem is could you give me directions on how to fix it please instead of just using a bunch of big computer words hehe.

Thanks for all of your help! ♥

Make sure you're plugged into the green jack in the back of your computer, first. That is the usual sound output jack.

If that isn't the issue, right click My Computer (I assume you're using Windows) and

Right click on My Computer, and choose properties, the hardware tab, then device manager button. The sound card should show up in the list with a red x or yellow exclamation point. Right click the device and choose install. Allow the software to look on Windows Update for the driver too.

If the driver still cannot be found, you'll need to find the model number of the device and look for it manually. I'd go to the website for your computer, plug in the computer model number and search for drivers for that computer. They should have drivers you can download and install. At worst, do a search for "specs" for that computer. That will tell you what the model number of the sound hardware is. Then google that model number + device driver download.

1st. Make sure all the connections are right and tight in pluging in the AC Adaptor. (Speaker wire goes into Green Port). 2nd Make sure the mute box is unchecked. 3rd Open volume controller and raise all the levels to the max. If none of these work then you have a bad port. But usually almost never is that the problem. It's usually 1 of 3 steps I mentioned

If it's an older computer, it could have a separate sound card. Since it has been recently moved, the sound card may need to be re-seated into the motherboard. Does it seem like the port where you plug your speakers into the computer, is loose or not real snug? If so, then you need to access the internals and re-seat the sound card.

    Good Luck ma' lady! :-)
