Pride & Prejudice is my all time favourite. I just adore the pend up sexual tension between the main characters and also the comical Mrs Bennett
Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde for the very sad perspective on human vanity - beautifully written.
Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger I loved as a teenager and return to it frequently to remember those years.

"A Christmas Carol," by Charles Dickens. It's a wonderful human interest story and a story of redemption. It's the story of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge who is given the opportunity to see the error of his ways, the effect he's had on others, and those who loved him, and the inevitable consequences of his actions when he is visited, one night, by The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present, and The Ghost of Christmas Future. The transformation from the miserly, unkind, uncaring Scrooge to a man with a heart and a soul who has been given a chance to redeem himself is heartwarming, poignant, and will lift your spirits.
If you haven't seen the 1951 version with Alistair Sims, it is well worth watching at Christmastime..

To Kill a Mockingbird I was shocked and thrilled to learn that the author Harper Lee lived one hour from my hometown and still lives there. She was an avid reader as a child and was reading before she went to school. I was exactly like this. I always wondered if I could have been a writer.

Gone With The Wind
The descriptions used to paint the story were so rich one could feel the humidity, taste the flavors, see the faces, see the colors, the landscapes and know the people.

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
I really like the character of Atticus. And its just a good well written story without boring you to tears. Its about right and wrong, about prejudice and fighting for what's good in life and helping others. It just appeals to me on so many levels, and of course, back to Atticus. It makes me wish that I'd had a dad like him because I grew up without a father.

Three Men in a Boat. A real blast, showing that a classic isn't necessarily deadly serious.

"Don Quixote"
It has some hilarious scenes in it that will bust your gut.
The theme of a fantasy world vs reality and how they clash is a great theme. I love the way the Don falls in love with a peasant girl whom he considers a great beauty, but her hair is like straw, her figure dumpy, and she is ugly! He finds a barber's brass bowl (that they used when they bled people) and steals it, convinced it's the Holy Grail.
Mark Twain repeated that theme in "Huckleberry Finn", though it was only one of the motifs of the book.

A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, because it describes the tremendous good and horrendous evil human beings are truly capable of.

Pride and Predjudice. Very insightful about romance and relationships without the extreme sexuality of today's novels. Over all, just a really good book, though.

jane eyre by charlotte bronte. its a realistic love story full of hardship. it's a good example of the garbage you have to plow through to find real love. it's well written and a very good read. there are modern authors i prefer, but, if u want a classic, this is the best. also les miserables is a fantastic book. it's a bit harder to read though. very long and the language is hard to follow, its worth it though.
