Wireless Connection Problems?

I setup my wireless network at my desk top computer. Then I had my laptop search and connect to the wireless network, but my laptop will not connect to the internet. It shows that I am connected to my network and have "excellent" connection speed, but everytime I open internet explorer I get a no connection error page.

Is there something on my laptop settings I need to change? What can be the problem?

ive got the same problem so im gona watch this one carefully

  • This is quite a common problem and usally relates to the ip address, although you have a connection to the wireless router you would normally find that the ip address is wrong and not allow access to the network.

Firstly check the ip address of the laptop go to start run and type ipconfig/all ensure that dhcp is on and tha the ip address starts with 192.168.0.xxx if it is anything else you will never get on the net.

Best way to set it is to power down pc and router and laptop power up the router first then the pc and laptop and each should be assigned an ip address.

alternatively you can set manual ip addresses

Not knowing what firewall u use, that would be where I would look, for instance you may have to add the network connection to the exceptions list, or something similar with in the firewall settings, or try and set the firewalls back to some kind of default settings. Or you could reset the router and try to connect again.

I agree with the previous poster, its probably your encryption setting the laptop and the router must have the same settings, i have a bt home hub and had the same problem, but i changed the setting and have no trouble now

I had this problem, and had someone who knows computers inside & out try to correct the problem. To no avail. We had to go buy a flash drive, which is about $30.00, and my laptop has been fine ever since. Runs faster now as well. Good luck with yours, but you may need a flash drive.

You need to call your router manufacturer. They will walk you through and fix your problem. Most tech support for routers is 24/7 and free. Go to web page to get their phone number or look in your user guide.

Its probably the ip adress. Is the signal encrypted as that could block access.

are you trying to log on with laptop without going through your service provider? (i.e. if your desktop is on AOL, your laptop needs AOL too I think)
