ronaldinho?? ZIDANE???? now these guys are/were great but i think the essence of the question is pure speed. I think if u put footballers on a line and ask them to reach 40/100 yards away, the first to reach there in my humble opinion will be:

1. David Odonkor

2. Gael Clichy

3. Dennis Romehdahl

4. Ludovic guily

5. Samuel Etoo

6. Kolo toure ( ya he is very very fast)

7. AND C. Ronaldo ( he is the fastest I have seen)

BTW all of these are based on my experince of watching soccer. No records or anything. they all just look like miles faster than any other guy on pitch.
