Where can I find a site that teaches how to use Canon camera functions like Shutter & Aperture Priority?

My camera has 20 shooting modes but I would like to see a site that teaches me step by step how to use the functions properly.

usually , you only use a handful of functions , as one gets to find certain preferences .

offhand, SP and AP are basically for certain specific situations where you need to control the speed, or depth of field.

eg. if i am shooting fast moving subjects, then i would use shutter priority, so i can freeze the motion,

or use a certain speed and pan the camera to get an effect that shows motion. the background will zoom in the direction of your panning, while your subject will be sharper.

aperture priority is used to control depths of field.

the amount of clarity within a certain range of distance.

usually 1/3 in front of the subject focused on, and 2/3 behind.

a smaller aperture will give you wider dof(depth of field).

meaning... eg. f 22, f 16, will render more images to appear clearer than f4,f5.6.

notice that the smaller aperture, the higher the number.

    that's because it's expressed as a fraction. that's where the letter f comes from. "f - fraction".

notice also i said "appear" sharper. because the wider the depth of field, the less sharp an image is.

it only appears to have more things "sharp" but really,

it will not be as sharp as if you use a wider aperture and focus on the subject.

    it's a trade off, really.

where you focus on is going to be the sharpest.

if you want more things to be "sharp", you have to give up some "sharpness".

hope i explained it well. i'm a better photography teacher in person, then by email or written "class", lol.

Is the camera digital? If so, dpreview.com is an excellent site with reviews on cameras, but it also goes into detail about all the functions. I have resorted to that sometimes. because the manual that came with the camera stinks. Hope this helps.

I like Kenrockwell.com but I shoot nikons. Go there and see. Even though hes mainly a Nikon shooter and you use canon most stuff is interchangeable. Also, he has some strong opinions on things take his teachings with a grain of salt and they can be a great resource.
