Question for anyone who loves dogs... I've been asking questions about dogs.. Now a personal question...
I was planning on buying a Visla puppy (9 weeks old) on Tuesday... But, on this past Friday, I went to the animal shelter and found a puppy/dog that was about 2 years old.. She is some sort of hound mix.. (I think she is part Ridgeback or maybe Redbone coon hound) Zoe who is 70 pounds.. Was droped of by her owner back in Dec. and nobody has adopted her yet.. She is very playful and doesnt seem to be aggessive at all..
So, now the question is do you adopt Zoe from the shelter or get the puppy..... and why do you think so?
What do you think are the good points and bad points to either side of this choice..
Thank you for the help and advice..

Personally, if it was me, I would choose to save the life in the shelter. Every time. I see absolutely no need to spend gobs of money on a dog when there are so many loving dogs in shelters who need homes desperately.
But you have to go with your gut here. Look at that dog and ask yourself if you can walk away and leave her there. Sometimes the dog makes the decision for us-they pick us and look at us, and we fall in love. Puppies are cute, but they don't need you like the shelter dogs do.
I have owned both in my life, but with all the rescues in the country I long ago decided I didn't need to have a puppy-I would rather take a dog out of a bad situation and give it the best life I can. Remember they all started out as puppies.

Save Zoe. Adopted/Rescued dogs are the best. The love they give you is there way of saying THANK YOU!. I rescued my current dog from the pound and I have not regretted my decision for a moment (he is now 12 years old). Someone else will pay money for the puppy....but, you may well be Zoe's last chance. Good luck in whatever you decide. :)

Well, I think that you should go with Zoe, not only does this dog need a home but I have had alot of experience with dogs and I have found that mix breed dogs are smarter and easier to train, and they arent mean, you should save this dog, instead of buying a dog that is more than likly going to get a home weather you get it or not , get the mutt from the pound it needs a loving home, got for the mutt

I can't have a dog where I live, but I'd been wanting a buddy for awhile. In Feb. I adopted a cat from the shelter, who had been there for 4 months. Nobody was interested in him. He took a shine to me, and I brought him home. He's been the best cat I've ever had in my life, willing, obedient, loving and playful. I say definitely bring Zoe home. She'll appreciate it, and most of your work will be in loving her and getting her to trust you, all fun stuff... not like housebreaking and the chewing stage. You'll be glad you did :)

Zoe- + points-
1) Getting Zoe would make her happy
2) She will finally have a good life
3) You will get the satisfaction of having/helping a poor life
4) She will not be hard to train if she understands the concept
Puppy + points - Nothing. You will just get a normal dog!
Zoe- - points -
1) The only minus point is that it will take some time to get used to you and that it will be sad till it gets to know you
Puppy- - points -
1) it will take you more time to train it
2) it will start chewing your belongings
3) you left behind a poor un-adopted sad dog ( Doggy sob here)
Opinion - I think you should get Zoe. leaving her behind is not a good idea (Heck the puppy will get a new owner...... in time. unlike poor lonely Zoe(another doggy sob here))

Adopt poor Zoe.... Too many people are breeding dogs that end up in shelters, so save a life instead of paying someone to breed dogs...
As for Viszla's... They are very, very hard to deal with as puppies... Not to mention that they are insanely expensive...

id get zoe cuz most poeple dont want older dogs and there are only the few who hav the heart to get an older dog or if you can handle it get both so zoe will have a playmate
or wait a while for her to adjust b4 getting a puppy

I would definitely get Zoe, she hasnt had a good life and she deserves a second chance. the new puppy, someone will always want it because well, its a PUPPY. older dogs tend to be less "attractive" to people because they aren't as cute. plus, she is probably already house and toilet trained while you'll have to try so hard with the new puppy. please give this poor dog a second chance, she will love you for it.

I have adopted two dogs from the humane society and they are the best dogs in the world. Mixed breeds tend to be better adjusted. Save this dog and they seem to sense that you saved their lives and give you lots of love. Also the dog you get will be spayed or neutered and have it's shots.

Go with the shelter dog. Mutts in general are far healthier than purebreds. You won't have to deal with puppy stuff like house-breaking or chewing.
