Do Nationwide Autocentres damage cars on purpose?

Friend took his car in for service at Nationwide Autocentres, they put a new air filter on it, when he got it home he checked the work and saw that the duct to the filter now had a hole in it. He took it back and the garage said that it could have happened on the way home, they werent responsible!!!

Do all garages behave in this way?

You're catching on real fast. They try to make a pound or a hundred whenever they have the opportunity. They're on a bonus system.

A "rapid fit" centre tried to sell me a replacement battery when one wasn't needed. They put a tester across it - it showed 9 volts. Put a new one on, car still had a problem. When I got them to put the tester across the new battery that also only showed 9 volts. They were strangely quiet and un-argumentative when I told them to put the old one back on.

Back to your problem. Would it be okay to repair it with duct tape (if it wouldn't be too unsightly)?
