I need help wiping my computer?
Here's the scenario: My computer got infected with some backdoor that infected the winlogon.exe file. Obviously I can't delete that. Online several sites tell me to stop the process "kernel32u.dll" or .exe but neither of those exist.
So I've decided that I need to save my files and wipe the hard drive. I need a program that will do that and I need a step by step as to how to go about it. I'd like something that is going to obliterate the HD by overwriting like 20 times.
My next problem is how then to get Windows back on the system. What would I need to do to get windows back on? Will I have to buy windows? I have the service pack 2 upgrade CDs but I don't think that will help me.
I look forward to all the help you can provide me.

You should not need to do a scrub, just reinstall XP. Yes, you will need to purchase a XP installation CD.
Backup all of your files up to another hard drive or to CD's, etc. Then just put the XP CD into your CD dirve and restart your computer. When you get to the screen that ask if you want to install XP, read down a little and follow the instructions for removing and then creating a primary partition. Then allow Windows installer to Format your drive. The rest of the installation will be a walk through.
You will need the drivers for your motherboard and any third party cards that you might have installed.

You can wipe the drive with the utilities found at http://www.freewarefiles.com/ As for re-installing the OS, you really need the original install CD rather than the SP2, unless the SP2 has the full install within it. If you have the license code you may be able to cop a copy from http://www.aresgalaxy.com/ Don't forget to write down all of the things like modem brand and model, sound, video, NIC, etc. You will need these to get it running properly. My site below is also a good resource under Computer Talk
hope this helps

Do scan your hd 1st before wiping yur hd off. I would like to recommend you avast! Using this antivirus do boot scan. If it find nothing so it's meant nothing hidden after the scan. Sometime those unwanted program just encourage you to do something bad. If you find nothing after the scanned, search those kernel32u.dll or .exe in registry. But aware what u delete here. Actually, kernel32u.dll is not Windows program. The real program kernel32.exe.

just reinstall windows over and over again
put the cd in and restart... then press the key when it tells you to. then delete all of the partitions... this will do and ERASE and INSTALL... just keep doing that over and over again and you should be good.
