I went to a gun shop this weekend to look at an AK-47?

While I was there, I saw automatic weapons for sale. They also had silencers. Since when did all that become legal?

I'm surprised they weren't selling grenade launchers, too. lol!

Update:

For jackrabbit hunting. :)

Fully automatic rifles ARE legal (very expensive and lots of ATF paperwork) some states do ban individuals from owning these firearms but they can be owned by a corporation! Silencers are a bad name, they are called suppressors and they too ARE legal (expensive and ATF paperwork). Both of these CAN BE owned by a person if the state allows and a sheriff signs off and the ATF says so. It can be done by a corporation or by a trust. Both require the same paperwork but less local L.E.O. involvement. Florida is a great 2nd admenment state, Illinois with Mayor Daley really sucks.

AK-47 like many other automatic firearms are legal and guarnteed to be under the constitution. However a silencer is not legal and probably what you seen was a suppresser. It equalizes the force when the bullet exits the muzzle.

Honestly, I doubt they were fully-automatic. Did you actually see it shoot fully-automatic? It may have LOOKED like it was a fully-automatic assault rifle with a silencer, but you have to remember that most of these "machine guns" you see in gun stores and pawn shops are just semi-automatic rifles with lots of aesthetic military features. Sure, you can get "grenade launchers" for your AR-15, but where are you going to get the grenades?

It's been legal since 2003, I believe. As far as the grenade launchers, they do sell them. They aren't the same caliber as the military, though. Much smaller.

Youd be surprised what is legal, the government will send someone to jail for having a little baggy of a plant grown in South American but totally look past someone purchasing a 7.62mm Sniper Rifle; makes sense to me.

Its been legal for a while as far as I know. lol and why where you in a gun shop looking for an AK-47?

Silencers have always been legal, But you do have to have a special license from the A.T.F. and pay a transfer tax to them also

HOW WERE U SOO SURE THEY WERE AUTOMATIC VERSIONS?EVEN IF SO THEY MIGHT NOT BE SOLD TO U UNLESS U HAVE SPECIAL CONDITIONS OR LICENCES ECT....(UNLESS THE SHOP IS ILLEGAL)

SILENCERS ARE ILLEGAL AS FAR AS I AM CONCERN,THEY MIGHT BE SOME OHER EQUIPMENT SUCH AS SUPPRESORS

  • And your point is???? In some states you have to have a license for certain weapons.
