Do you agree with this?

I saw a car with a bumper sticker or two today out driving. Actually, a quite typical car with quite typical bumper stickers for this part of North Texas. One said, "I support the Marines." and the other said "I support the Police."

The first thing I better say, before you accuse me of pining for the "Free Angela Davis" type bumper stickers, is that anyone is free in my mind to support whomever and whatever they like.

Update:

But if you place a "sign" on your automobile, the sign had better represent what it it you want to say and the things that are important to you.

And I was thinking as I drove up behind this car at a red light, this person feels it necessary to proclaim to the world his/her support for two groups. marines and cops, who have it in their job description that it is either desirable or OK to kill people in their line of work.

I am neither against Marines nor cops. I just feel bad when the only thing that a faceless man driving down the street sees it necessary to proclaim support for is death.

Update 2:

I found this on a blog and thought to share it with you.

I find it to be one of the ugliest things that i have found on Yahoo 360.

Vist the above link and chime in with your two cents.

The fact that you think the main purpose of the Marines and Police is to kill people tells me you don't have a clue.

What's wrong with supporting the Marines and the police? Unfortunately, it is their job to kill when necessary but it's not like they are bloodthirsty or anything like that. The Marines are there to defend our freedom and the police are there to "serve and protect". It is not right to be judgmental about anyone else and their opinions. It is also unfair to base one's opinions on a few negative stereotypes. This person with the bumper sticker has probably served in both. A lot of bumper stickers can be considered offensive, but they are just there to express something someone feels strongly about. People should just get off their high-horse and stop scowling at everything that might rub them the wrong way. There are things a lot more important in life then some sticker on a car.

look, you need to research your information before you throw that out there. Basically, your saying ALL marines and ALL cops are out for blood. NO that's simply not the case. Marines are soldiers, warriors, and killers, but that's not all they are. Marines came to the aid of the people of Mogadishu back in the early 90 when they were being starved by Mohammad Farrah Aideed. Marines saved more innocent people than they kill. YES innocent people die in war. YES there will continue to be innocent people who die. but then again, innocent people die everyday from stupid murders and ill tempered criminals. Which BTW, the cops protect you from them. I really mean no offense, but you really need to think about what your saying before you just decide that they're all villains and "killers" who support bloodshed. my final point is to remind you of the infamous 9/11 attack on the us and how well the police did in saving those innocent people. I rest my case.

Wow - that guy's an idiot if he believes that the Marines and the Military & the Police actually enjoys killing as part of their job. It's sometime is a necessary evil that should be avoided unless otherwise forced.

I understand where you are coming from, but I maybe you were looking to deeply and just over analyzed the meaning. The guy in the car probably viewed the bumper stickers as patriotic and American.

People like would be the first to scream bloody murder if the cops didn't show up to protect you, and if the Marines refused to stand and defend this country against ALL enemies as they have in the past and continue to do so. Not only does our military protect the freedoms of our country, but do so for the freedom of other countries as well. My twin uncles died fighting for the freedoms of South Korea. My father lost an arm fighting for the freedom of Europe.

Not that I'm gung ho on military or anything, but they also protect millions of citizens' rights and quality of life. The Iraq was kinda ruined a good part of my support, but I still support the troops when they aren't on a killing innocent people mission.

As for police, I feel that they are too often bad people. The pick on innocent people and if those people are a certain color, they really mess with them heavily. Sometimes they kill us.
