I don't think it really matters what the envelope back looks like, as the wax seal will make it look elegant and authentic, as in the olden days. I think your guests will appreciate the time you spent and comment on how classy it is, no matter what. I am also choosing to do this for my invitations, but can't decide between the real wax or the silver or gold glue gun sticks. I know they also have stickers out there that look like real wax.
