How would you brighten up a dark wood paneled room? Without painting that is.?
I am renting an apartment and the bedroom has dark wood paneling. Any creative ideas on how to brighten up the walls without paint? The landlord won't let me paint the paneling. Thanks!

well. i must say i'm jealous.... panal CAN BE georgeous. You can go with the hunters cabin look, wood grained furniture, moose head... fake one if you like... and the fishing pole with lures hanging in the corner, scottish style red plaid blanky hanging off chair arm... faux fur rug... talk about coxy and comfy! just comfy. (but thats a dim light combination), you did say you wanted to brighten it up.. in another house I put together some beautiful Thomas kinkade puzzles... they come in all different sizes sometimes 3 or 10 to a box... anyways, i hung them, put sawed tomato stake around the frame and before i moved I was planning to put artistry lights up facing them so that I could really highlighten them... that should bring extra light...
You could also put a mirror set in just a way that it reflects light from another bright room. good luck with your other answers..
One more cute Idea.. put shelves up about 1 and a half foot below the ceiling, line it with fake ivy... then drape white christmas lights through them... drape them hear and there... will look like a low key festival of lights in your living room...you could really go with that and put round chinese paper ball lights too! God Bless

If you cannot remove the wood panels then you could paint over them. If this is not possible then you can face off the panels with plaster boards, skim the boards with new plaster and then treat as an ordinary wall and paint. If you must retain the wood panels then get some lighting to brighten the room. A few mirrors also help as this will reflect light.

You can fabric the walls really cheap and easy. Find you a bolt of dollar a yard fabric at walmart, get a staple gun, have someone help you, run the fabric along the wall, pull it taunt, staple, then you can use wide fabric trim, ribbon, or even wooden strips painted coordinated colors and attache to top and bottom. Burlap, or a painters canvas sheet is really cheap to work with. Good luck, also you can get the long mirrors that you put on the back of closet doors and put several of them along the wall, it will reflect what light you do have.

Here's the perfect solution. Get some material and put it up over the paneling, just like wallpaper! Cotton is the best one to use. You put it up with liquid starch ,an a spray bottle. It can be removed easily without harm to the existing surface, and it's much, much easier than wall paper to put up. It's so simple,I wished I had thought of it before we spent the money to re-panel our dark room! Bye

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/WoodworkingTechniques
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

Fabric. It's easy. You can use two sided fabric tape to put it up and it can be cleaned. Just make sure the fabric you get is colorfast before you wash it. Otherwise, take it to the dry cleaner.
You don't need to cover the entire area. You can do panels.
And when you move, you can take it with you.

1] put a light colored rug on floor
2] put up a mirror directly across from window to reflect light
3] use light to medium colors for bedding, curtains, pillows
light to bright pink
peach to orange
banana to lemon
mint or sage to kelly green
ice blue to royal
aqua to turquoise
lavender to violet
4] if the landlord will re-imburse you, install track lighting.
If not, put a light or lamp in every corner [ one on each bedside table and on each side of dresser, or use floor
lamps for unlit corners.]
5] wall hangings should be light or bright as well - paintings, photo collages, swags, etc.
