I have a dishwasher, but sometimes it's just easier to do them in the sink and be done with it....

I prefer not to do the dishes at all, but if I have to then I prefer to do them by hand and use the dishwasher as a drainer for the dishes, because a dishwasher can never get all of the baked on dirt off of the dishes

I have washed by hand since our dishwasher broke 2 and a half years ago, and my kids do their share. It's actually not too big a deal...though 4 months ago I sliced my finger open when washing a glass baking dish which broke, and needed 10 stitches. : ( Oh well, I probably would have been washing that by hand, anyway!

For large jobs, I use a dishwasher....the newer ones use less water and electric than draining the water heater.
For one or two pans from spagetti dinner I'll just use the sink.
