How long can puppies stay outside in hot weather?

Some breeds tolerate heat better than ohers, so it really depends on the dog. If you are planning on leaving the dog outside, or absolutely have to, during the summer heat, you need to make sure it has plenty of shelter and shaded areas, along with fresh, cold water. Give him a large water bowl with a big chunk of ice in it. This will keep the water cold as well as replenish the bowl while he drinks. Well, that is to say if your dog leaves it in there and does not pull it out to play! The best thing to do, though, is to only keep him outside when he has to be or in the morning / evening when it is cooler (ie - potty breaks, short walks / exercise, etc.) and keep an eye on him. Heavy panting and lethargy can be signs of heat stroke. If a dog gets that hot, his survival rate starts to drop very fast.

No dog puppy or not should be in the elements without proper water and shelter for any length of time without supervision. Puppies have a hard time regulating their body temp and will overheat and get very cold very quickly. If they are out playing make sure there is plenty of water and some shade and encourage them to rest at least every 20-30 minutes for a little bit so they don't get heat exhaustion.

dont leave your puppy outside in direct sunlight! If you are going to leave him outside for a while in hot weather, make sure he has a shady spot to lay in or a dog house. You also need to make sure he has plenty of fresh water. A kiddie pool is a good idea to put outside to help your puppy cool off in hot weather!

It shouldn't be left out at all in hot weather. You should be going out with the pup, make sure that you stay until it's toileted, and come back in. Where did common sense go?

not to long when it's real hot, i put my dog outside for the for the day, i give him plenty of water, like a bucket full because he will drink it all, and i even thought about getting him a fan to put out there, cause he loves the wind feeling! oh i forgot to mention my dog is in the shade and under a roof! but just outside!

probably not too long, you should notice if they are panting bring them indoors if taking for a walk maybe 1/2 hour to an hour, but never but him in your car when you go into the store- too hot
