What's the difference between "log-in" and "log-on"?

look at it this way, to "log on" is like getting on the highway to "go" somewhere. to "log in" is like turning into a parking lot to do something at a destination.
that's my take anyway!

no difference.
I think Windows uses the term log on while all the websites use log in.
that has to do with logging IN the site and logging ONTO a running OS.
