I've been there, you have my sympathy. Use the gold Listerine (only the gold works for this) every hour or two. Keep it in your mouth as long as possible. This will get rid of the absess. Then use Ambisol for the pain whenever you need it. (The Listerine will start working after a few uses.) This always works for me.

As a dentist, you should take care of the pain soon. What the dentist will do is see what causes the pain... a gum disease, trauma, deep cavity, gum sensitivity, root exposure, abscess, or herpetic infection.
It could be any one of these... right now... you should focus on pain relief. 1. go to walgreens or any store and get ambesol. It is a temporary fix for your cold sores, it is a "local anesthetic."
It appears that you have an oral herpetic infection... it should go away in 7-14 days. look it up.
For pain, use the anesthetic because I don't promote pain killers but if you must, if you are not allergic to aspirin, do 600 mg advil gelcaps, 3 hours later 1000 mg tylenol, 3 hours later advil.
note: see your dentist.... this is information only. DISCLAIMER!!!
Best of luck.

It sounds like you might have an infection, maybe an abscess going on in that tooth. Take you temperature, then call back the doctors office and make it crystal clear how severe the pain is. Don't just say "my tooth hurts " this is the time to be absolutely clear it is the worst pain you ever had, you can't sleep and ask them if this could be a sign of an ABSCESS! A good doctor will either see you on an emergency basis or send you to an E.R. to be examined and treated. An infection this close to your sinuses and brain is nothing to hold off on.

If it's infected, ask the dentist to call in a prescription for some antibiotics right away. Use ibuprofen, and an ice pack.

Rub soothing oils over your body and try to meditate. Sometimes when your mind is focused on something too long (such as your mouth) then things can possibly get worse. Relax and go get some ice cream (the coldness can sometimes numb it a bit). Hope this helps!
