I would say get a new line! And then I would think "does he think that? or is he just saying that??? OH GREAT WHAT IF HE REALLY MEANT THAT AND HE WAS THE ONE! NICE GOING...WHERE DID HE GO???"

Not to sound rude .. at all, but I hear this every day. I work retail and at least one guy say that each day.

If you really want to compliment a woman, pick out something that is unique about her. Like, I love your cute little freckles, or your laugh is adorable, or her dimples, or she has pretty hands.. or anything. Anything that she would not expect is better than saying you are beautiful. If she is beautiful, she's already heard that millions of times.

3. Say, "Thank You. You're very sweet."

4. Maybe start a conversation.

5. Walk away with a smile on my face and a happy thought about myself in my mind.

I'd say thank you. Then I'd walk away and see if you take another course of action.

I would smile and say thank you. But bear in mind that is all, it will hardly be an icebreaker to get the girl to talk to you. Girls all over are use to this line.
