My mom lives in Nashville and I just visited a couple weeks ago. I would recommend going downtown without a doubt. Theres plenty to see... The Wildhorse Saloon is a nice place to eat, there is a big stage where they have live music at night.
You should also see the Gaylord Opryland Resort...its huge, and there is a little boat ride you can take within the hotel, something your mother and grandmother would like probably.
There is also the old train station near downtown, called Union Station.
The Ryman auditorium has a lot of performances and its very historic, dates back to the early 1900's and people like Elvis has begun playing there.. we saw a Sunday morning gospel performance there a few weeks ago..its just a neat little piece of music history I suppose.
You can take a city tour... http://www.nashvillesightseeing.com/tours/tourDeta...
Opry Mills Mall is enormous! There used to be a theme park on that land, which was torn down unforunately, but an enormous mall was built..there is an aquarium in the mall where you can dine and eat under all the fish and sharks and what not... Theres also a sting ray exhibit... there is the Rain forest cafe in the mall...and big movie theater, more shoe stores than you can imagine...its a large mall, and if you want to do any shopping definately go to the Opry Mill Mall.
The Grand Ole Opry is also a place you can go and take tours of or see a show.
There are ''homes of the stars'' tours... I recommend driving around..its beautiful in Nasvhille, and the houses are HUGE. Many houses there are the largest I've seen. http://www.nashvillesightseeing.com/tours/tourDeta...
And the country music hall of fame is neat.
And there is a general Jackson showboat ride, which takes you around the city, you can have lunch on the boat as well: http://nashville.citysearch.com/profile/11443704/n...

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum -- Incredible artifact collection, movies, etc.
Frist Center -- Top notch art museum.
Ryman Auditorium -- Mother Church of Country Music and former home of the Grand Ole Opry.
The Loveless Cafe -- Some of the best country cooking you'll ever eat, and you never know what artist you'll see dining there.
The Bluebird Cafe -- They frequently have unknown acts performing. Some of the famous folks to be discovered there include Dierks Bentley. Plus, sometimes folks like Keith Urban just drop in to jam.
The Wildhorse Saloon -- Frequently offer shows, concerts, TV tapings, etc.
Broadway Ave:
Jack's Barbecue -- Just some great barbecue, and you never know who you might see.
Tootsie's Orchid Lounge -- Willie Nelson got his start in this little honkey tonk.
Ernest Tubb Record Shop -- Used to be the home of the Midnight Jamboree, the radio show that featured artists such as Loretta Lynn.
Opry Mills -- Great shopping.
Gaylord Opryland Hotel -- Incredible Indoor Gardens including a river you can take a boat ride on.
The Grand Ole Opry -- Take in a show.
Nash Trash Tours -- You'll laugh until you drop.
Nashville Ghost Tours -- They even offer a haunted pub tour that is just to die for.
And there's more, but I'll let you start with that.

I live in st.louis and have traveled to nashville many times in my life. I hate to say this but that city is soooooooo boring. It has so much potential but it isn't fun at all.

Isn't that where the Grand Ol' Opry is located? Well, if not you could always go to the airport, they've probably got all kinds of planes going who knows where!
