why do they call doctors and lawyers?

businesses "a practice"?

shouldn't it be the real deal???

    i think it's because they practice what they've been taught not like practice for the real thing that comes later. Webter's defines it as: 1 a : CARRY OUT, APPLY <practice what you preach> b : to do or perform often, customarily, or habitually <practice politeness> c : to be professionally engaged in <practice medicine>

    They call it a practice because none of them have it down yet. Do you know what they call a person that gets"C"'s and "D"'s in medical school. Doctor.

    First define practice. It is the act of professionalism. We have forced a definition through time and misuse.

    Why don't people learn a bit more English from dictionaries, in private, before making public their ignorance? You might also want to look up the word "praxis."
