how to set up a internet server in my house?

i have a cable connection, and want to share my websites on the internet. I have apache installed, and use it as a server in localhost.
What should I do to create a www server in my pc, and let peopelo see my websites over the internet?

First you will have to buy a domain name. You an get one from Yahoo or MSN or a few other places. Also, you will need to get a windows server edition. You can use XP but it wont be the best web experience. I would recommend using Windows 2003 Server : Web Edition but you can get one of the Windows 2000 server editions. You will need one or more computers dedicated to this site, you cant just use your home computer. Also, Cable may not be enough bandwidth to host your own website. I would go with a T1. Unless you have the 10Mbps cable connection, then youll be fine for now but you will have to get the T1 or larger connection if you get to many visitors to your site. There is a calculation that you can use to figure out how much bandwidth you will need and if you want to know it, you can email me and ill tell yea. Since it wont be big. Cable internet will be fine and XPs built in Server will do you fine. But i would use a free hosting website if you just want to show off the website to a few people... I recommend http://freespaces.com or http://freewebs.com. You can just upload your site and get a domain name. You will have to get several accounts with them though if you want to post more then 1 site. There is a way to set all site under one account but it would take some explaining and if you want to know, you can email me.
