Windows Me To Windows XP Upgrade Problem?

I have Windows Me on my Computer, and have got a Windows XP Professional Upgrade disc. I have succesfully completed all of it before the last part of the GUI setup (ie. before Windows Welcome). It will sometimes appear to be working at something for a long time (but not be), or, if it gets to the stage of creatings Start Menu items or the step beforehand, it 'loses' my Mitsubishi\Diamond Data 24x CD-ROM (I had a burner, but it's reading wasn't so good).

1. Should I put my Sony CDROM to replace the Mitsubishi 24x one?

2. What's my problem and how do I fix it?

I have 128Mb of RAM and a 450MHz Pentium 3 (I have run Windows XP on a Pentium 2 350 with 128MB of RAM before)

You need to do a Windows "Clean Install" (for instructions go to: (www.theeldergeek.com).

Then, you need to install the motherboard drivers. Use the Belarc Advisor to identify the Mobo.

well first of all Windows xp needs more than 128MB memory to run, at least 512MB. and for your CD ROM it might be a driver issue. But I do recommend backing up your data and do a clean install of windows . Yes if you want replace your CD Rom and see, its a good idea to eliminate any problems that you may have with it and good luck

I think the problem is not with your cd rom. It might be with your display adapter. I think windows xp has installed the display driver improperly.

yes it will run ok. try last good config in safe mode, and/or run check disk both boxs. another stick of ram will help once you get it going.
