    Because regardless of everyone talking about equality in everything , it will never be ache vied. The reason for this is that the white American male has to much of a head start on everyone else, so they are seen as an elitist group, who when they say something derisive about another group , its seen as them looking down on that group. Where as when the group that is perceived to be the underdog, is praised for standing up to the big bully. You are very right in saying it shouldn't be offensive to say it one and not offensive to say it to another, and to take it one step further that would include all these other groups that say they just want to fit in gays, lesbians, etc. The thing is is every single person in this world is a IST. Some people are racist, some are sexist, and many other ISTs exist out there. This is just human nature and we all need to learn how to get past it, and get on with more important things. Most people now a days are more concerned with what their neighbor is doing than with what is going on under their own roof, thats the problem with this world today. We ALL need to take an introspective look , and see what we could do to make this hunk of rock a better place to live.

    In this day and age, I have seen a lot of men speaking poorly to women, so I am not sure what you are getting at. Racism exists against all races, so anyone speaking ill of or to another will be seen as tactless regardless. I do agree that it is more difficult these days to appear non-racist when speaking to someone of a different race.

    An example: I work at Aeropostale, and I was trying to tell this African-American woman around her forties the balance remaining on her gift card, and she was not understanding what I was saying. I repeated the number several times and even drew a circle around the amount on the receipt, but to no avail. Finally, I said," What don't you understand?" in a polite voice. She got very upset and began ranting about how I was insulting her because she was "black". I hadn't insulted her in the least, and her race had nothing to do with it.

    So I feel your pain, as it is a very difficult issue in our society, but one that can't be controlled just by you. I don't know what it's going to take to get rid of racism and the special cases of it now, and I'm not sure it ever will be contained.

    It happens all the time. Have you ever heard Tom Joyner on the radio? He bashes whites all day long but as soon as a white man says something he's a racist and gets fired. I wish someone could explain it to me. I'm not racist but that does bother me.

    Such as? I have never made a racist statement towards a white person... it's racist. I hear whites always talking about reverse racism, I'd like to see an example.

    Lord knows, if I am ever found saying something about whites, I would lose my job, have a cross burning in my yard and probably be drug from someone's car.

    A woman=one woman.(singular)

    Women=many women (plural)

    Also, for you information,

    capital letters and punctuation exists, too.

    This is the language section.

    You should have posted your question in another category, perhaps "Society and Culture"

    And a real gentleman never would say "back" anything to a woman.

    That is what being a man means.

    It's because centries of abuse and their new found liberties have made them more sensitive to some of the most miniscule banterings. Even in light of that I found that if you accept them as equals which I always have and coerse with them as such, they won't mind us using any of "their" words. (Their words meaning the "n" word.)

    Woman, I have the utmost respect for and I find that they are actually better than guys in so many ways, and we men out there have failed to see it for so long, I just don't understand how we could have been so naive for so long.

    You men have put women on the backburner for centuries. We can talk about you all we want. And you better not downgrade us - just sit there and take it!

    take that and apply it to all aspects.
