AWD is "All Wheel Drive" in which power is distributed to all four wheels. FWD means"Front Wheel Drive" in which power is applied to only the front wheels and RWD stands for "Rear Wheel Drive".

AT and MT are acronyms to describe your transmission, with AT meaning "automatic transmission" and MT meaning "manual transmission".

    Hope this helps..........

Mid-engine AWD makes most sense. Between rear-engine RWD and front-engine FWD, I'm not sure there's much difference. RWD should be better than FWD under acceleration on tarmac, as weight shifts to the back like in a dragster, but no-one can accelerate hard in snow.

AWD - refers to All Wheel Drive - all the time.

FWD - may refer that a vehicle is driven by the Front Wheel Drive only. You can spot them everywhere. Most cars today are front wheel driven.

RWD - means the vehicle is driven by it's rear wheels only.

FWD - on an SUV and pickups have the capability (choice) to be driven in Four Wheel Drive. This term is completely different than All Wheel Drive vehicles. The driver has the option of driving using the rear wheels to drive the vehicle or by pushing a button engaging the front transfer case to drive the the front wheels also depending upon driving conditions. Very deep snow, mud, climbing steep hills, or pulling a heavy boat and trailer out of loose stony water.
