If she has had any drainage from her nose and/or the cough is unproductive (so that it sounds like wheezing now) you should take her to a doctor. Now. It's only going to get worse. She sounds like my son who just had a cold and a phlegm cough. But each cough didn't bring anything up. He was working and working and still sounded raspy. This is because his bronchial were dilated. He was prescribed Albuterol: Albuterol is a bronchodilator used in treating asthma and other conditions with reversible airway obstruction.

We had to nebulize him with this solution once every 3 hours until he was clearer and then for a few more days after that. From the first dosage on, when he cough he brought up all the junk in his lungs.

Albuterol is a Drug with some side effects, I believe it's even a steroid. My son was taking it at about 8 months old. Talk to the doctor and see what they say.

Also, you really have a doctor that goes on vacation and doesn't leave someone (another dr.) in charge of their service?

That doesn't sound right. I have 24 hour coverage from my pediatrician. They may still tell me to take him to the ER but at least I know someone will be meeting me there to check out my son.

I would just keep an eye on it. Now if it starts to sound like a barking cough you need to see the doctor asap which usually means whooping cough. If there are no other symptoms such as fever or other things then just keep an eye on her breathing- tightness in the chest- increased fits of coughing-difficulty breathing- rattling in the chest. As long as it is a productive cough that is good. Little ones don't know how to spit so they can't get it up and out. Keep a humdifier around. It really helps keeps things moist and loose-prop the mattress up at night- a nice warm lavender bath.

sounds like a little cold. if she is acting normal and no fever, I would wait it out.
