Why couldn't I extend my question?

I ask a question and promised I would choose best answer.I checked everyday to be sure and extend the question or until I felt I had recieved the best answer.To my dismay today my question was in voting!! I just checked yesterday and there was no option to extend the time! So why did it go to vote? I have seen question last as long as 3 or more months.I am very upset and hope the ones who gave me answers forgive me for not keeping my word.I did vote for best answer but that doesn't mean anything.Can someone shed some light on this? Thank you in advance for your answers.:^) I can't promise but I will try and vote best answer before the question expires.

If you received "Heads Up!.." notice then you can extend expiration,sometimes mails could come late,or if any other click the option to pick the best answer by Yahoo! community people then it may go to voting immediately without notice.

Many questions are not open for more than a week. Those questions that are open for weeks or months at a time are usually asked by celebrities and get thousands of answers.  It is probably up to Yahoo to keep extending the time extension until a best answer chosen.  Unfortunately the large majority of questions cannot be open for more than a week, and if the person who asked it fails to choose the best answer, it will go to voting.  As you may realise questions in voting may not get the best answer in anyone's eyes.  

Remember that although you have the choice to have your question open for a maximum of 8 days, you can choose the best answer anytime after it has been open for a minimum of 4 hours and you have at least one answer.
