If you are a novice signer, it's close to impossible to become certified enough to sign professionally.

You will need to start taking sign language classes right NOW, join a Deaf club, make Deaf friends and understand Deaf culture.

Then you might want to join an Interpreter Training Program.

AFTER THAT is when you'd want to think about doing it professionally.

Source(s): I am Deaf and have taught at several Interpreter Training Programs.

i said this before on other questions. I'll repeat lol. but to answer your question, people can text, read the notes and communicate through computer [yahoo messenger, MSN etc] About me i think..: I'm profoundly deaf. We communicate in a comfortable way, always to any hearing impaired people. In my primary school, I used to sign all the time with people who can use sign language. I did not like speaking, because it used to put me off when teachers tried to correct me. I should not have taken it in crisism[spelling] but oh well, and my parents wanted me to go to a hearing school with a deaf unit. I did, it was a hard experience for me to cope with because I had to start speaking. My speech was a bit blur and it did put people off when i tried to talk to them. I am in year 11 now (15 years old) and my speech are almost perfect. I have a lot of friends, and i have great confidence. Many people said I am an outspoken woman which makes me happy!! I can still hear, with my cochlear implant (different version of hearing aid, very different I would say) very well. When i take it off, i can't hear (means that I am profoundly deaf - i used to take it as offence because I didn't know what it meant! ha ha!) anything. If someone screams VERY loud, of course i will hear it but just a bit.

Talk to your guidance counselor at school, he/she should be able to direct you. You may want to consider education in communication with ASL (degree) good luck to you and God bless****
