Limewire and Frostwire are both open source (tick for both)
Frostwire was started by members of the Limewire community when Limewire considered placing a code to block users from sharing licenced files after pressure from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). Frostwire have promised never to impliment such code.
Limewire has two versions, basic and pro. Pro charges a membership fee (around $18/19 afaik). The basic version allows you to connect to two untrapeers and the pro connects to four. Frostwire has one version which is free (and should remain free) which pretty much offers the same as the pro version of Limewire.
They both connect to the same p2p network (gnutella) so have access to the same files.
Frostwire has an irc (chat) network built into the program, which offers a channel dedicated to support (run entirely by volunteers).
Both Frostwire and Limewire have forums, where you can recieve guidence and support from other users.
I *think* Frostwire is coming out of beta and releasing a full version very soon.
If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick Frostwire. It offers the same as Limewire Pro, except for free. And it has a chat, to while away the time spent waiting on downloads :D

It depends Limewire is more prone to have virus/malware and spyware in its files because it is a popular program to use although Frostwire is also prone it will not be targetted by hackers and people who like to P*ss you off. Frostwire is not as trusted as Limewire and i have discovered many flaws in its programming
