I am so glad that I am not a teenager in todays world!?
Is anyone else with me? Everything seems so materialistic and fake! Why are you glad you are no longer a pre-teen or teenager?
I hope I am raising my children right so they don't act like most of the teenagers I am referring too.
Yet, I was an 80's child and I am sure my parents felt the same way.

im 17, and it's depressing even for me. Everyone wants to be like each other and yet unique at the same time... worth is based around what you have and don't have, what you wear or how you look.
It's nice n all, but i feel compared to most of the people i associate with i've had an 'impared' upbringing, which has taught me valuable lessons in life and is maybe why i see things in a different light. One day though, life will smackdown on these people too and they will realise how fake it truly is.

I am VERY with you! I think it's sort of twisted what kids these days act like and think they need to act like to be accepted.
What's really sad is that I'm only 20 and I already feel worlds apart from today's "kids" because of all the changes that have occured just since I was in middle school and early high school... or maybe I was just raised right.

Heh, I'm a teenager and am in the thick of 'today's world.' Yeah, it completely sucks and seems like these years are going to last forever.
As for materialistic and fake, yeah, that's true. I can't stand people like that and now I act how I feel whether people like it or not. If they don't like me for me that's their problem, not mine.

Me too an 80's child from Cyndi Lauper to New Kids. Everything now is completely superficial.

You have to be a friend to your kids,, no i dont mean by letting them do all they want, but to be as close as possible without losing their respect to you or your control,,, you can judge what they can or cannot do,, if you choose to be the bossy boss kind of parent then you will get the````I WILL BE NICE AT HOME BUT I WILL BE BAD OUTSIDE`` kid....if you are the let them what they wanna do kinda parent and choose to be a cool parent then you get the``OK MY PARENTS ARE COOL ABOUT IT AND DONT MIND IT SO I MIGHT AS WELL DO DRUGS AND GET PREGNANT ALONG THE WAY```.... see the trick is be cool but dont lose your control,,be interested in their world but dont let it drown their own life,be positive but let awareness in them,be strict only to let loose on certain part of their life,,,, its all about balance balance balance,,you cant change how the world affects them but you can change their outlook on life without forcing it into them, let it be subtle slowly, injected into them,, DONT EVER BE A COOL PARENT LIKE SO MANY ARE TRYING TO DO NOW!!!....wow i supprise myself...im not married nor i have kids ha ha ha ....anyway its balance !

I for one agree! It seems they need more things, that obviously won't make them happy in the grand view of things. Personal possesions are just that! Peer pressure is alot different now than it used to be, seems more difficult to be a teen these days. Violence/drugs sadly are on the rise.
