Any suggestions for the suggestions box?

I wanted to make a suggestion at work. I have so many ideas on making it a great place to work as it is NOT right now. Things that are not good include: TOO HOT it must be at least 80 in there by 2pm. The place stinks of body odor by 3pm and I feel sick from the smell. PROBLEM 2: Morale is so low. I don't think anyone takes pride in their job which leaves me walking into a HOT pool of SAD folks. EVERY SINGLE higher up is stuck up. The leads and managers are so unapproachable. I asked one day how to get to the top. The only answer given was- "don't complain and be here on your scheduled shift" I'm not gonna last there another month but this is my second time to work there. They will hire anyone who fills out an application (call center). I want to make some suggestions but do it without sounding as if I'm complaining.

I quit once at another location due to lack of professionalism from my team leader.

When making suggestions, you have to "lay it on thick."

    Suggestion :

I think that "name of the company" is a great place to work! I love being a part of the team. I have noticed and with others that I have spoken with is that the toughest part of the day comes towards the end of the shift. Many of us feel that better ventilation/air conditioning or even fans would really improve things. It is hard to concentrate and remain alert on the telephone when it gets hot and stuffy. I would love to be a part of committee that could look into this. Would you give me a chance?

Call center work is thankless - I mean people don't usually call in to say how wonderful your company is, they call in to complain or to get help for a problem. It's high turnover, high stress, low reward and the managers are just as unhappy as the call center reps. If you plan to stay in this business, you have to work to get above the call center. When making suggestions, don't focus on temperature or morale unless you have a constructive suggestion - focus on the business and you will find success faster. Can you think of ways to improve customer service and reduce hold times? Make your office "green"? Office volunteer opportunities? Some kind of employee contest with a fun prize that the company might sponsor? Those are the types of suggestions that will differentiate you from your peers, who are tying up management's time complaining about body odor. Good luck!

If everyone there is as crabby as I think they are, you need a "snide" jar, not a suggestion box. We had one years ago where I used to work; started out as a joke, but really wound up being quite funny.

Work in the construction industry, so there can be quite a bit of foul mouths. We put a big jar in the middle of the room and everytime someone made a "snide" comment, they had to add a dollar to the jar. The boss smiled, walked over and put a $20 in -- said that would be for the first week or so. You could call anyone on the "snide" comment and we voted democratically if there was a dispute.

At the end we had over $100 which we donated to a young girl in our office who got pregnant to help her out with new stuff for the baby!

It really did help morale a bit -- misery loves company!

It sounds like you are a great employee, the kind that I would love to see everywhere I go. It seems like this is not the company for you. Some companies get it and some don't. It sounds like you need to move on. I would suggest that on your next interview, if you find the opportunity, let them know that you like to look for ways to make processes more efficient and cost effective. Since this is a strength of yours, you may be put in a position which the company would like to see changed. At least you will be able to see the company's feeling towards your personality type and would know whether or not it would be a good environment for you.

Can you talk to somebody in HR. They can be good resourses for concerns.

If you do approach a higher up try not to come off as trying to fix everything (although it sounds like they need it) the probably won't like that you are telling them that what they are doing is wrong. I suggest starting with one thing and just approach it as it make your work more effiecient.

Beware though - If they hire anybody that fills out an application then they don't take pride in their own company so they aren't going to care what you think. It doesn't sound like a good fit for you and don't let them drag you down.

Just from what you told me, doesn't matter what is placed in the suggestion box as your co-workers and superiors probably aren't going to do anything about it one way or another. Everything you mentioned that is wrong with the place in itself would test the moral fibers of any employee.

Unfortunately, stating "don't complain" reminds me of my ex boyfriend. I couldn't comment on anything that he didn't assume (you know how that goes) and gripe at me for complaining. Just showing up for work doesn't constitute advancement and think about it....is this really a company you want to advance with? I have been in business management and administrative office support for too many years and from what you wrote I wouldn't give this company the time of day.

Find another company that takes pride not only in itself but it's employees. Try careerbuilder.com, monster.com and jobs.com.

I say go for it. You do have a right to. Go to the head person in charge, and tell that person what is going on. Maybe you can set up a meeting for all of the employee's, and bring up a lot of these issue's. There might be someone there who feels the same way, and this will also make you look good, by taking leadership, and doing something, and if you find ppl that feel the same way, you can all come together, and make your voices heard.

I would start looking for something else.

God does let us know in gentle ways that it is time to move on...

So, perhaps if you start looking you will find your perfect job.

And, everyone will smell nice and smile all the time.

I'll pray for you.. I had the same problem on several jobs.

I ended up getting my insurance adjusters license and everybody wants to hire me now...

In agreement with Starte. Do not waste your time. Look for another job. Your suggestions won't even be taken seriously if there is that many problems.
