Please calculate the equivalent weight if SO2 in the following reactions:?

a) SO2 + 2 H2S = 3S + 2 H2O

b) 5 SO2 + 2 KMnO4 + 2 H2O = K2SO4 + 2 MnSO4 + 2 H2SO4

    Equivalent weight = Molecular mass / n

    n is the number of the electrons

    a) In SO2 S has oxidation number + 4 ; S has o.n. = 0

    equivalent weight = 64 / 4 = 16

    b) S goes from +4 to +6

    equivalent weight = 64 / 2 = 32
