Actually only the last of the answers is remotely close to being right.
The Iraq war has little to do with it (why is the pound so high when GB is also there?).
US government spending has something to do with it, but more importantly that Americans are not saving but spending. This is the main reason
Another reason, is that China's Yuan is pegged to a 7.77 exchange rate to the dollar.
Also, the Euro and Pound should be more valuable than the dollar, as this is how it's always been. Oil prices have nothing to do with it since there is only ONE oil market (so prices go up everywhere in non-producer nations)

Primarily, it is the war in Iraq. The United States has plunged into debt to finance a war. Paying the interest on such an enormous sum has stiffled economic growth in the USA because there is little money left to invest in the very things that have made the USA a driving economic force:education, roads, health care etc. In addition to sending a big chunk of our gross national earnings to the foriegn investors who are financing our debt, we haven't even started to gain energy independence...so we're sending billions of dollars to other countries to buy oil.

Having most European nations using one currency has benefited those that had weaker currencies to the US Dollar. So now you don't have a choice, you exchange dollars to Euros, not to Francs, Pesetas, Liras, etc....sooo sad!
