Does anyone know of a program/code to convert word tables into excel spreadsheets?

No but here are two other methods:
You can select a table in word and paste it into an excel spreadsheet.
If the table is the only thin in the document, you can also, select the table, select Table->Convert->Table to Text (separate with tabs) then save as a .txt file. You can then open it using Excel - Excel will guide you through and import wizard. Select "Delimited" as the type, and "tab" as the delimiter when the wizard prompts you for these.

try opening the actual word doc with excel. Go to the file, right click, and "open with" excel.
