A Question about a picture I had printed at Ritz...?

I had a 4x6 printed of some lemons in a pale and they turned out beautifully. Bold colors and all... when I had it blown up to 12x18 the color in the lemons lost some of the boldness that they once had...What happened?

I used Photoshop to prep the picture and again, the 4x6 looked EXACTLY like the monitor..

You tell me. Thanks in advance.

Enlarging a photo should show flaws in the resolution, but the color should be as vivid. I'd suggest giving them a print with the colors as you like, for reference.

Ritz and most photo labs now do their own 4x6 prints but often send their larger work to outside sources.

What's the resolution (megapixels) of the camera and what were the settings of the photo?

First you are dealing with either a local "One Hour Lab" or it is being sent out to a lab that does large volumes of work. They will print what comes up on their monitors so if their equipment is not calibrated to seeing what you are seeing it will come out different each time.

You could take it to a pro photo lab along with the print and tell them to match the colors. You will pay more but if this is what you want you will have to pay.

    Hope this helps,

File might have had enough resolutio to print 4x6, but not the much larger file.

    or

Your monitor might be miscalibrated. IF your monitor is miscalibrated, you edit a pic to look good, but when it hits a printer, or another monitor, it may not look as sharp anymore.
