i am sorry this is one breed of dog if do ever get i would get the standard. personal experience when i was younger and working for a kennel poodles can be very snappish if not trained right. if you plan on having any kids small poodles are not good for that. the dogs that are Bichon and Bolognose and Havanse are better for that type of dog companion dog. i was younger i was after our poodle who and when she got the chance would bite me one point she bite straight through my finger my mom had to pry her off and i had her loose tooth in my finger. and she didn't like guys at all expect my dad was the only expectation she would just growl at any guy she was scary and mean and it wasn't how we treated her we had a lab, Akita. and collie that were excellent dogs. hope i helped good luck with your search. the standard poodles seem to be a lot more calm and relaxed and friendly.

The smaller poodles are companion dogs. They are literally bred to be happy when they're with you. It would not be fair to get one of these dogs if you won't be with them quite a bit. If they are left alone a lot there is a pretty good chance they will wreck things, because they are prone to sepperation anxiety. There are so many different breeds out there, and they all have different pros and cons. It is never a good idea to fall in love with a specific breed until you sit down and sort out what you're looking for in a dog. Please visit the American Kennel Club for more information, as well as to find out who you can get in touch with in your area when you decide what kind of dog will suit your lifestyle.

My French Poodle was a "Momma's" dog.

Couldn't stand my kids. He thought he was one of the kids!

He thought he was better than the kids!

He didn't respect them at all. Would not take orders from them......He'd growl at them for my attention...........He was tempermental and would drag my personal items, shoes downstairs and put them in the middle of the room................He wanted my scent around him.

He ran away twice. I found him after 8 months, around the corner living like a slob........I just called his name and he ran faster than lightning and jumped into the car, as though nothing happened......the second time I never found him.

So they are tempermental. Need attention like a baby. If you have kids. When you give them a treat, they have to have one too or else.....

When living them at home alone. Leave the TV on or radio, in every room and leave plenty of toys around........have easy access to windows, so they can jump up and watch people go back or the cars.....................if you don't, they will chew your furniture, shoes and other chewables.

Toy poodles tend to be more barky than the miniature and standard size. My miniature poodle only barks when someone is approaching the house or if he hears strange noises.. and apparently that's pretty typical. I think toy poodles tend to bark more often.

They are not 'french' poodles, just poodles.
