Morrissey was like some sort of god to me when I was young and depressed. So was Robert Smith, but I've seen him live, up close, and he sweats a lot.
Um, I guess I'd have to say Robert because he's multi-dimensional where as Morrisey just kind of keeps banging the same drum. Oh, and I love the song Charlotte Sometimes... I REALLY, REALLY love it.

Robert Smith. He has been kind enough to provide me with the soundtrack of my life.
I can only think of two singers whose voices I like as much or more than Smith's: Brian Ferry (and can we just talk for a moment about elegance?) and Micheal MacDonald (totally different kind of music, but a wonderful voice).
Also, there's the small but not insignificant fact that The Cure is my favorite band and has been for as long as I can remember. The Smiths are in my top 5, but Morrissey solo comes a bit lower on my list of personal favorites.

Morrissey!!! The Smiths were my favorite when I was younger. I like Robert Smith, but no one is as depressed and down on the world in general as Morrissey.
Cheers, good question.
