It seems to me that the Constitution guarantees "freedom of religion". It also seems that this is being
interpreted as "freedon from religion". Comments?

Both are correct.
As interpreted by the Supreme Court, there are two prongs (two ways) that the 1st Amendment protections come into play.
The first is that the govt cannot dictate what happens within a religion -- people are free to believe anything they want, and to express their religious beliefs. Note that important distinction between expression of belief and actions based on that belief. Actions may still be regulated.
The second is that the govt cannot mandate religious belief. The govt cannot endorse or sponsor one religion as being more valid or less valid than any other. The govt cannot compel people to follow one particular set of religious practices, and cannot enact laws solely based on religious doctrine.
This is the "freedom from religion" prong you mention, because it would almost always be a single religion which happens to be in the majority attempting to impose their religious beliefs on others as a matter of law. Since the Constitution prohibits that, it protects the govt legal process from being controlled by any religious group to serve the ends and goals of that religion.
So it works both ways. The govt cannot tell religions what to do. And religions aren't allow to tell the govt what to do, or to use the govt to push their religious agenda.

Some posters must not be much on history or get their history lessons from A.M. radio. Not ALL of the fore fathers were Christians a lot were atheist . They did however respect those who wouldn't or couldn't understand.. And they (the fore fathers) have written specific papers on this matter. The founding fathers clearly state that our country was in no way based on any religious tenets.
I find it odd, how those who can believe the un-believable refuse to acknowledge the truth and facts, yet they know more than the actual authors. I think Christians right to go door to door and testify on the streets shows that there is no freedom from religion. History has proved time and time again, that when religion is allowed to grow unfettered it always ends up as a convert or be killed situation, seemingly violating one of those precious commandments. The founders knew this and that is why they wrote what they wrote.
I did an internet search and the link was the first one I clicked on. The truth is easily available if one would only look for it.

In constitution it says...
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
We're free to believe what we want, but you can't get gov to endorse any specific religion or have them impose religious views on people. However the US do not have super strict separation of church and state as you probably have seen. In some European countries gov official will not even say things like 'God bless' for the sake of separation of church and state.

our constitution states we have freedom of religion, it also lets us be free from religion as we please, no one has got to accept any religion or none at all unlike some country's you either choose or off comes your head, some idiots complain that our country's constitution is not based on Christian principles, however , every one of our forefathers believed in god and the teachings of the Christan faith, and our country was built on the principles of the Christian faith, our forefathers settled this country with a bible under their arm and a rifle in the other, so don't give me this B.S. our country is not Christa in based just because our politicians are atheist and thieves,
