Which car should I go with?
I'm in an interesting situation. I currently drive a 2002 Nissan Sentra XE. My dad has offered to give me his 1997 Nissan Maxima SE, in which case he'd take my Sentra and sell it.
The Sentra was given to me by my parents new, so I've been the only driver. It has 55,000 miles and is in good condition. The downside is that it has manual roll up windows, and is pretty small.
The Maxima has 117,000 miles, but has power leather seats, sunroof, and a V6 engine. It will undoubtedly have more power, but less gas mileage than the Sentra.
I just graduated college, and am going to Law School. I intend to keep whichever car until I graduate law school, then probably get something newer once I get a job. What do you think? The sentra definitely has more life to it, but the maxima would be larger and more comfortable. My dad also just replaced the clutch on it.

Dude, Stick with the Sentra. Like you said it has more life in it and it is inexpensive. While the Maxima has more features and space, it is 5 years older and will require more to maintain and drive.

well...the sentra has half the mileage of the maxima & it is 5 years younger...the maxima may have some of the other options you'd enjoy, i'd suggest asking yourself which one do YOU really want?
the maxima, if it lasts until you graduate will have a much lower trade in value than the sentra because of age, mileage, etc (yes, even though it has the nifty power options) but does that have any weight in your decision? most cars will last a long time if they're given proper maintenance (if your dad just replaced the clutch, that's a good thing!) but what about the other parts? what's going to need to be replaced next? as a car ages, things are more likely to need replacement & that can get ridiculously expensive (especially for a college student)
how much of a concern is gas mileage for you? what about the price of gas combined with that? is more power worth paying more at the pumps?

it's a tough question but i'd go with the sentra because it has much less miles on it. If you didn't intend on keeping it through law school I'd say the maxima

Keep the car you have. One plus that you have with the manual windows is that people have so many problems with the motors acting up on the power windows then your stuck with a window that doesn't work. Don't go for any thing that is going to use more gas, who knows what we will be paying next year.

Newer is better. I'd go with the Sentra as well!

Keep your car. You need reliability right now not bells and whistles. if you want the comforts wait a few years and get something new that you want when ou can afford it.
