adding whole cds:
open itunes.
insert cd.
click import on the bottom.
and its in.
adding individual songs:
-- from the itunes music store: buy them and they're automatically downloading to your music library along with free album artwork
-- from limewire: download and open up limewire. search for the songs with the highest audio quality then save it to an easily accesible folder on your local or external harddrive. open up itunes, go to file > add file (or folder) > select file/folder to add.
-- from windows media player: burn a cd of the songs from there. then import the cd back into itunes to be in mp3 format
then sync when done!

At bit lengthy, but it'll guide you to the right path.
Adding music onto iPods from Windows Media Player -- Not possible unless you change the iPod software, which can void the warranty and mess up your player.
Movies only work on the iPod video. Won't work with the Nano or Shuffle. Pictures will work with any iPod but the shuffle. To add pictures of videos, just place the videos all into one single files, same with pictures. Then set that folder as default for photos / videos. When you sync, it will sync to your iPod as well.
Download iTunes. (It is included in your CD or here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
First of all create an iTunes account. Go to the iTunes store and search for songs you enjoy listening to, buy and download them.
If you already have songs available on your computer that you would like to add on your iPod, have iTunes do a search for these songs. This is called importing music. Go to File > Import.
Or you can RIP them from a CD, insert it in your computer and iTunes should detect it. Rip it from iTunes. (What I do, [but i'm not sure if it'll work for you] is, I view the contents in my disc from "My Computer". Then i drag all my music in the CD into my iTunes library, it works. ; ) )
Now you have gotten music into your library some way or another. Connect you iPod, iTunes will detect it. Start your sync, if it's set to automatic, it will sync right when you connect the iPod. (make sure the songs you want in your player is checked).
In the future, if you make changes to your iTunes, it'll make the changes on your iPod when you sync.
