a device that could be added to trucks when built an not use fuel to run it but would provide power to the truck, to run a tv or ac or radio etc, would anyone use it? it cost alot of money to idle a truck in a truckstop an uses alot of fuel, could posibly save a million gallons a day in fuel

Update:

A diesil engine burns 1 gal per hour at an idle on average.

Current powerpaks (generators) burn about 8 ounces per hour. At a initial cost of $3-6K.

Kenworth and Mack offer non-engine poweer sources for heating, cooling and other items. These are good for about 10 hours, then they must be recharged.

The industry as a whole is already looking at these devices. Our company is putting them on all new trucks...

So the answer to your question...is Yes.

I asked my sister-in-law's husband, who's a trucker, how much fuel these trucks burn at idle, when they lay over at a truck stop, and run the motor all night for the A/C , electricity, etc. They said about $75, what they'd pay for a hotel room. I was surprised it burned so little overnight! maybe he was off, dunno. Anyway, if it's cheaper to run the engine than stay at a hotel, well, where's the incentive to save fuel? in colder climates they ll leave running just because you really DO NOT! want to have to fire up a frozen diesel engine.but out here in CA. with the price of fuel, you bet these truckers are shutting them down at night and yes they have generators, but most opt for inverters

It's called a generator, most can not afford a small diesel or gas generator.
