Hey Shannon, do you know you have a road race car (if it is an IROC) ? It can easily be converted to one if ya don't. In 1986 we changed the cam to reduce the HP 30% for fuel economy . They will do .95 on the skid pad with "shaved gatorbacks", .93 without and the 350 engine we came out with in 1987 ran with the late 60's Camaros(check Hot Rod magazineOct, 1987 for stats) So why not go with what ya got?

Source(s): GM emp 31 yrs and worked at Norwood assy. plt where the Camaro and Firebird were born and an avid backyard mech / auto enthusiast with friends who are the same. And I have owned both and loved my 1985 IROC with a little tuning so that it outran the 350's

There is no comparison between the 69 Camaro and the 86. The 86 was a good vehicle when new, especially if it was an IROC. However, at it's best, it could never be in competition with a very good restored 69 Camaro. A really nicely restored 69 will bring from the low twenties to upwards of 100K depending of the quality of the restoration and the options, especially if it is a DZ car. An 86 Camaro, even if it was an IROC isn't worth much at it's best. One other thing to remember, a car is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. I knew someone that had an original 69 DZ with a cross ram (2 fours) in showroom condition that sold for $137,000.00. They sold new for under 4K.

Heck, a very good condition 69 does not even have to be a matching numbers car to bring good money. BUT, the kick back is, it takes good money and a lot of labor to make a decent car.

I have owned a lot of late 60s big HP muscle cars. At their best, the engine in the mid 90s Z28 Camaros and Vettes will pull away from them. A sweet 69 with a fuel injected LT1, stroked to 383, would be a bad dude. About 430 Hp and 425 Lbs torque.
