Disneyland California, Sea World, San Diego Zoo and Hollywood. Where do you suggest to stay and what order?

We going on vacation in September. 4 adults and 2 children. Where are some good hotels to stay at preferably with suites and what order do you recommend to do it in coming from San Fransisco?

I would recommend starting with Sea World and San Diego Zoo. Stay somewhere in San Diego. There are tons of hotels there. Sea World should be nice weather the zoo could be hot because it is more inland. Coronado Island is nice place to stay too. Then go to Disneyland. Try to time it so you go to Disneyland after all schools are back in session (after Labor Day). It is one of the nicest times to go!!! The rides are like 5 minute waits and often you get to go over and over again without even getting off. If you want to see all the parades and fireworks make sure you are there for at least one weekend night. They are usually open later and have more parades and shows to offer on the weekend. I'm not sure how many days you plan on going but Wed, Thurs, Fri. would be good. Tues, Wed, and Thurs are the least crowded days of the week. The nicest place to stay is onsite at one of the Disney hotels. If this is out of your budget then check some of the hotels I have listed below. Then I would do Hollywood last.

You can go onto www.disneyland.com to look for vacation packages. AAA also has packages. I think Costco and Sam's Club might have packages too.If you plan to come often you can buy an annual pass. Then next year you can plan your vacation one month earlier that way you can still use your annual pass. They also offer cheaper room rates to annual passholders.

You can also check Ebay for cheaper tickets.

If you decide to stay offsite:

Try to find a hotel off of South Harbor north of Disney Way and south of South Manchester. There are a lot of smaller hotels there. That is nearer the main gate. They also have IHOP, McDonalds and a few other restaurants in close walking distance. If you stay here you will be closer to the main gate than the people who park and ride the tram in. My friend stayed at one off of W. Katella and she said it was a long walk to the park. Unless you want to stay at one that has a shuttle...but then you have to rely on their timing. You can also get into the park off of South Disneyland Drive but that is where all of the Disney Resorts are. You could drive and park but keep in mind parking onsite at Disneyland is $11 a day

Another thought is a time share. You can get free tickets and cheap stay but you have to go watch their presentations.

Here are some websites to ones I found for hotels and motels on S Harbor:

    http://www.hojoanaheim.com/

    http://www.discoverourtown.com/hotel/90967.html

    http://www.discoverourtown.com/hotel/26619.html

    http://www.discoverourtown.com/hotel/35070.html

I am sure there are more...but thought this would help you get started.

Well, I can't really recommend a hotel since I stayed with relatives. However, others in our group stayed at the Embassy Suites hotel in Anaheim, very close to Disneyland. They really liked it. Had a delicious free breakfast every morning.

It seems to me that it doesn't really matter whether you go to Disneyland first or go to San Diego attractions first. You could even do Disneyland on the way down, then do the San Diego attractions, then do Hollywood on the way home. I'd probably try to hit Disneyland on a weekday, hoping it'd be less crowded and keeping in mind that it probably closes earlier after Labor Day. Or, maybe you can schedule all the theme parks on weekdays with the Hollywood walk-about on the weekend. There is also a second theme park across from Disneyland, it's the Disney California Adventure. We didn't make it there.

How old are the kids? To be honest, there is not much to see in Hollywood for kids. It's just a lot of walking around, maybe looking at endless souvenir/adult shops, maybe going to the wax museum (waste of money). A more interesting day would be Universal Studios. Only has a few rides, but the shows are interesting/fun for most kids. Also, we just went to Knott's Berry Farm -- loved it! Kids are 8 yrs and we stayed 10 hrs, not crowded, no long lines, rode every ride multiple times, lovely people, had a blast! The twins also liked Legoland in San Diego.

Disneyland is about a 30-40 minute drive from Hollywood area.

Here is a website that lists suites hotels near Disneyland:

    http://gocalifornia.about.com/od/calamenu/a/lahd_s...

Be prepared to spend lots o' money. Parking at Knotts was $10! We got a locker = $5. The kids wanted to climb the rock wall = $5 x 2 x twice. The kids wanted churros = $4 x 2. The kids even wanted food and drinks, oh my!

    Have fun!

Work your way north: Start with the San Diego Zoo. It's within a few minutes of Sea World, so you can stay at the same hotel for a few nights. I suggest you start off getting to San Diego at about 3pm, so leaving San Francisco at about 7am--not TOO early. Settle into your hotelroom (I suggest the Half Moon Inn, halfmooninn.com--it's right on the beach with spectacular views) and go out and enjoy the area. Downtown SD is gorgeous at night. The next day, go to the zoo, and the next day, Sea World. These attractions are interchangeable; do whichever you'd like first. The next day, drive 2 hours north to Anaheim. Staying at a Disney Hotel is a MUST!!! I suggest the Grand Californian. I love the rustic, warm feel to it--plus, it's unique in that it has exclusive access to Downtown Disney and its own special entrance into both Disney Parks. Get a Park Hopper Ticket to to California Adventure & DIsneyland interchangeably. If you have an extra day go to nearby Knott's Berry Farm. It's a smaller theme park with bigger rides (for a real thrill, go to Six Flags Magic Mountain, 30 minutes north of Hollywood). The next day, Go to Hollywood. Stay at the Beverly Hilton (technically in Beverly Hills, but 5 min. away from Hollywood & Highland) Do the whole tourist thing. Visit the local beach communities. Have the soCal experience. Have fun, enjoy :)

Spend at least 3 days in the "disney" area. Hollywood is actually dirty and not at all interesting to kids. I liked it when I was 18 but my little sisters didn't (they were 14 & 12).

As for staying, there is a place called the Portofino in that has bunk beds for the kids and a hide-a-bed in that room. You should be able to find lots of places with "kids suites" that will accomodate everyone. Sea World is a one day visit & so is the SD Zoo. Go to San Deigo first... as Disneyland is impossible to compare with...Disneyland & California Adventure will be the highlight of your trip.

DO NOT STAY at places that have low (3 or less) ratings by AAA. If they give a 3, it's a very generous rating. We (my boyfriend & our 4 kids) stayed at the Best Western Raffles Inn and it was the worst hotel experience of my life. There are some pretty grungy places to stay near Disneyland. Be careful!

There are many of passions to follow in San Diego and that hotelbye is the area to begin discovers what San Diego has to offer. In the San Diego vacation you will step external of your rut and you will discover new activities while you're here and you could only discover that discovering a brand new desire is an adventure in itself. One of the places must see from San Diego is Balboa Park. That park has over a 1400 acre and here you'll find old structures, numerous museums, gardens, and natural space. The park was created for the Panama California Exhibition of 1915-1916. The predominant architecture is Spanish-Mexican type, reduced stage structures that blend in with the organic surroundings. One of the shows of the park are the Botanical Gardens and lily lake, the Museum of Man, the Museum of Natural History, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the famous San Diego Zoo. Even although you never enter a building the park is just a lovely place.

Every kid needs to get to Disneyland at least once in their life, and would be best from the 12-year-old's perspective. Sea World would have a bit more of an educational component, however, especially if opportunities to see sea life wouldn't normally be available. To really know what's best, I'd probably ask the 12-year-old what they themselves most want to do.
