When you meditate...?

What do the rings of light slowly moving away and disappearing mean? I only started recently and I've been seeing these rings of white light moving away then vanishing.

And yes, I have my eyes closed for it.

Update:

Katydint: Don't have a Guru or teacher, this is self-exploration which is why I have sought advice here. To everyone else I thank you greatly for your input and suggestions, if you have anything you'd like to add just email or IM me.

Update 2:

Katydint: That # is not much help as I'm in Australia.

I have mediated for over thirty years.

I have experienced these same circles in the past.

I ask my shaikh (Teacher) concerning these and he told me not to worry. He also said that this was the re-energising of the Kursi (The Third eye in man).

I would continue what you are practicing and relax as another person has mentioned.

    Be persistent.....

The appearrence of these "lights" means that you mnd is still very active and your optical nerves are creating illusions.

As you would with any thought while meditating, realize that it is just a "thought" and let it go, then continue to follow your breath.

In certain Tibetan Buddhist meditations, one visualizes various colors associated with the consciousness passing through the stages of death and entering the bardo.

These are for the trained meditator, and usually require a teacher to assist the learner.

for now, this one would recommned that you simply continue to follow your breath and learn to disapate you thoughts and illusions.

Most meditation is done with the eyes slightly open.

May it all be well with you.

You're squeezing the optic nerve. Keep your eyes open during meditation. If you need practice, stare at a candle flae until your body gets used to the lack of blinking.

It means different things to different people. It is only up to you what it means, no one else can tell you because it's your body trying to tell you something. Keep meditating and try it out again and see if the same thing comes back up, if it does maybe it means something and try to know what you're feeling at the moment as well. Bye.

It could be many things but usually it is retinal memory and passes as you continue with you eyes closed. If it continues it might be your own energy pulses that you perceive, if so consider yourself lucky that is the beginning of energy sensitivity.

    nothing special.

    I see colors a lot.

don't get attached to any particular sensation you get when you meditate... some of them are fun & nice, but you won't always get them. don't get disappointed if you dont get them... that won't mean anything either.

just sit. that's the important part... quieting your mind.

Maybe you could keep your meditation private, share this with your teacher or guru.
