Does anyone know why a Sheriff's Marshal would be calling?

A sheriff's Marshal has been calling my phone instead of stopping by my home. I've been having problems with my kid's father accusing me of illegal activity and the marshal has been calling instead of stopping by my home. I've never heard of one calling instead of stopping by.

Update:

I'm scared that he may be trying to get a restraining order against me from seeing my kids because of something bad I did (not to or around my kids) in the past. I have since changed my ways and it was a very brief problem that I had that has been taken care of on my end.

The marshal probably doesn't take the accusations seriously.

On the scam note it would really help to know what state you live in, how big the town is or if there is a county police. In most places the sheriffs dept (or marshall) only takes care of the jail and serves papers with some patrolling if there is a regular police department. Knowing what town you live in would make it easy to figure this out. Knowing this may determine if you can call someone else about it and if you have the number and it is some sort of ploy..... and the police don't know anything about it you have a basis to make sure your ex can't do anything to you.

What do you mean "you think he is trying to get a restraining order?" Have you just listened to the phone messages? If so you need to respond to it regardless. If the ex is trying to do something the the sheriff could testify that he attempted to reach you...... making you look bad in court.

First of all you are under no obligation to say anything unless an officer presents himself in person. In person or not you should watch what you say. By all means get the guys info and call his station to verifify that he is who he is.

Now a restraining order is for if it can be proved that you pose a direct and physical threat to the kids. Even if you got busted for something if it had nothing to do with the kids getting a restraining order would be tough. The only way to do it would be to go to court to prove you have some serious long term issues but even then denying a mother from seeing her kids would be difficult and to say the least very expensive.

If you can't afford a lawyer there are several avenues that you can take. And it sounds like you may wish to revisit all of that to get it set in stone so he can't mess w. you later.

Did you ever think of the fact that it could be totally unrelated to your kids? If it is just a call it more sounds like it would be just to gather information about someone you know. Just a thought.

Do you have caller ID? I ask this because it looks like you're being scammed.

There are sheriffs. And there are marshals. Traditionally, they do not like each other; they are in competition and they serve slightly different constituencies.

I have dealt with oodles of marshals, and more than a few sheriffs, in many different jurisdictions, and I have never ever heard of a "sheriff's marshal."

Those wrinkles, coupled with the fact that marshals do not investigate anything (they are generally charged with executing judgments of the court, as by seizing assets) leads me to think that you're being taken for a ride.

Must be a small town. Bad news either way.
