Does anyone know if there is a correlation between daycare and childhood obesity ?

It just seems that the prevalance of both occured together. Similar timeframe, similar numbers. (along with other things) I wondered if it had been studied or researched.

I don't know the facts but it may correlate. Not just because kids are at daycare, but also cause they aren't at home with their mothers making nutritious meals.

and I don't think they exercise the kids too much at daycare. They may let them loose on the playground for a while, but all the daycare kids I know talk about all the Dora and Thomas stuff they saw on TV that day.

I think it wasn't the only thing though. Here are a few other things that I think contributed/are contributing:

around the time that daycare started getting popular, so did microwaves... video games... etc.

Also because moms are working more in addition to the daycare thing, they're tired when they get home so they make quick microwave meals or eat out (fat fat fat) and they don't have energy to do much with their kids so they all just sit around watching TV all evening.

Kids have no incentive to do anything anymore. All the kids I know get their allowance whether they do chores or not, none of them have limits on their TV or video game time, and they get driven everywhere they want to go!

We rode our bicycles everywhere... walked to school... when our parents were visiting grownups, we went out into the yard and entertained ourselves (Tag, red light green light, jump rope, etc). I don't know a single kid now who can climb a tree or do double dutch!

The correlation is with the garbage kids are fed. Never more so than in day care and I dont care what anyone says about that.

I never heard that, but children need to learn how not to ask nasty questions.
