Why would people rather watch people having a life than going out and having one for themselves?

I keep seeing all these questions about the reality shows like Big Brother, and I just don't get it. It seems that people are more concerned with the life of the idiots on these shows than having a life of their own...I don't get it!

jaja. Well lets see I come out of work at 5 and I am very tired and have enought energy to care for my 2 month old child. Then I watch the shows that are on that are of ppl (yes pathetic) I do thsi because I have no time. I wish I had an interesting life like them. And money to throw away like them and premiers and stuff to go, but I dont the only days Ihave off are saturday to which I go out with my son and we sometimes go to the movies. Life changes after having a baby but I would not change my son for a life in a mansion...

Maybe we just need to daydream of what we want and would like to live

It's so much easier to watch some schmuck win or lose on tv than to do it yourself. There's no risk, and some illusion of control.

I used to be a bit of a reality show junky (and also spent a bit of time playing video games like The Sims). Then I realized I was seeing more simulated reality than I was actually living reality.

Since I got off the couch, I'm meeting new people and learning new stuff, like rollerblading, canoeing and how to ride a motorbike. I've acquired an interesting collection of bruises, scrapes, mosquito bites, but challenging myself is far better for me than watching some doofus be challenged on Big Brother 49.

Yeah, the short answer, it's easier, people are lazy and scared of taking risks themselves.

Big Brother is bad, but some of the shows are quite funny. I think if that's all you ever watched you should get a life, but a few guilty pleasures doesn't mean your a complete loser.

  • It's probably because there is no risk in the observation of another persons life. However, to experience life one needs to often step outside their comfort zone which requires a certain level of risk.

    I agree with Sarah.

I don't presonally like them, I find them quite stupid to tell you the truth. But people are curious. Besides it's not like they are replacing their lifes with the t.v. show. They can have a life and watch that t.v. program as well.

It's cheaper watching TV. Some people are not physically fit to do alot of things.

Television is entertaining, simple as that. Most people do, as you put it, 'have lives'. Portions of their lives include, among other things, watching t.v.

in my opinion this occurs when a person is afraid to live his/her own reality. and thats that

it's about the same reason that people ask questions on-line instead of talking to real people . . . fear of rejection.
